Masterclass Program

More than a decade ago, when i first started out to work with dogs, i had trouble finding the right information that would fit my concerns. back then, there were no resource about being a dog trainer. No one shared what it was like to actually work with dogs, instead everyone focused on displaying their own dogs and the amount of ribbons they can get. In other countries, shadow programs require you to use tools choke chains and shock collar, which was what I did when I purchased a course from a renowned trainer.

For what? To be a champion at dog shows they said.

When I tried speaking to some of the local pioneers, two of them told me i did not look intimidating enough and the dogs would only listen to an alpha. I disagreed as I’ve had challenging dogs myself, and did not at all required to look “alpha” to work with them. What I lacked was a proper way to get into the industry, yet no one was willing to share their knowledge.

With time and self studying, I decided to experience what it was like working with different clients and their dogs. Starting from friends, neighbors and family’s dogs, I eventually progressed to working with strangers and dogs with severe behaviours. In my early days in this industry, I had 6 years of experience using punishment based training, and was able to use shock collars at an advance level. While I was successful and had clients who referred me just for the expertise with this tool, I one day decided try a different approach out of curiosity, I ended up losing some of of those clients as they did not wish to try different approaches. As such, i had to rebuild my clientele, I took a few step back and went to work in another industry for a couple years and during this time, I polished the concept that I’ve designed. Fast forward today, I have additional 10 years of experience using positive reinforcement. This I believe allowed me to truthfully understand the different techniques. There are always pros and cons to a decision, being able to be good with tools and different techniques is something that is hard to find these days in a professional, where most are just being manipulated by organizations and parroting other trainers without actually understanding how things work.

At the time where people were crazy about Dog whisperer, I came up with a unique concept inspired by child psychology, trainers and dog owners used to laugh at me, telling me that dogs will eventually take over humans if given the chance. However, this decision eventually proved opposite and actually changed my whole world working with dogs. I learnt that with this concept, I could actually communicate with dogs in different ways. At one point, I was working with a very challenging dog, i eventually observed that he, like children can learn better with a conducive environment. Bear in mind, this was in 2014 where alpha based theory was still at its peak. Cedar millan even had a show in Singapore. While others were busy shushing and jabbing their dogs, I started to come up with creative ways for dogs to improve during rehabilitation. There were multiple failures along the way as I had no one to guide me. 20 years later today, I’m living the dream of getting to spend my life with dogs on a daily basis. â€‹â€‹

In short, everything i have learnt is bottled into a crash course for you.

For Groomers
Suitable for groomer's working from Home and Shops
I have worked with groomers and seen the way dogs are handled on a daily basis. The work is hectic and you never know what dogs you might meet, as such groomers rarely have the chance to think about how they could help dogs manage the process better. If you think about long term benefits, having a good understanding of cooperative care and handling can in return create a better and safer environment for the dogs and yourself.

In this course you will be learning to read the body language of the dogs that you work with, learn to identify stress signals, understanding about different dog personalities, their trigger point, relaxation techniques, as well as learning to protect yourself.
Course Length: 2 Sessions    Duration: 2 hour/session    Course Fee: $1200

Who's suitable for this program?

Over the years, I’ve received plenty of request for shadow programs with the focus on learning real world skills. Unfortunately due to the limited time I have working with urgent cases, I’ve been putting this plan aside for years. Now, after 2 years of brainstorming, my team and I have created a plan that can include shadow program and yet wouldn’t sacrifice the ability to help dogs. We call this the masterclass program because it is very different from typical shadow program. This is only possible by creating a multi layer experience, which gradually expose students to behind the scenes care, strategy planning and dogs of different severity. Now, i want to pass down my knowledge accumulated over 17 years of working experiences which includes not only success, but also mistakes learnt over the span of my life working with dogs. I strive to provide non biased guidance to people who are interested to learn and make the dog industry a better place for our pets. This workshop is not just for professionals, but also people who are just starting out or thinking about moving into this industry, or simply looking to improve their skills and knowledge.

Anyone who wishes to learn about dogs, good and bad.

Maybe you are a dog trainer and wish to be better, could be that you aspire to a trainer one day, or even just wanting to learn about dogs to help save them, my goal is help you, as well as the dogs that will come to you someday. I feel that most dogs have been hugely misunderstood, misdiagnosed and hence subject to unnecessary pain and stress. My team and I work with dogs on a daily basis, you getting to see what happens in front and behind closed doors, as well as getting to handle real cases will provide one of a kind experience that can’t be achieved by reading or watching videos online.

Future plans

As you begin your journey as a dog trainer, you may be keen to gain experience with someone guiding you along. We do provide ad hoc projects for selected graduates. As we are very strict about the safety and welfare dogs assigned to handlers, all graduates will need to go through review before we accept them to be part of our team.

When chances arise, we will assign a dog to approved graduate based on temperament, behaviour and size. The assigned dog will stay with the handler through this period. Full training will be provided, which includes weekly/bi-weekly visits with guidance on routine, training techniques and preparing the right environment for the individual dog.

We may start with assigning manageable dogs first, this depends on your experience and skills demonstrated during the course. Over time when things are well, we can consider prioritizing certain case that may better suit your talent. â€‹â€‹
